City Hall grade one magistrate Beatrice Khainza has sentenced 6 people convicted of poisoning meat and fish using dangerous chemicals to 8 months in jail.
The convicted are Erias Katumba, Isa Ssenoga , Isma Mutebi, Umar Kalyango, Baker Mulondo and Ibrahim Ssekitto
The magistrate first dismissed the accuse persons’ earlier application seeking to revisit their earlier guilty plea.
She concurred with the state prosecutor’s concerns that this was wastage of court’s time.
The magistrate based the sentence on the fact that these are first time offenders, who didn’t waste court’s time to go through a full trial.
“In case you are not satisfied with this sentence you have a right to appeal within 14 days from today,” she advised.
The accused were arrested by KCCA public health team from areas of Nakasero Market, Nankulabye and Ntinda Market from various butchers selling meat and fish preserved with dangerous chemicals.
