The Vice President of Uganda’s oldest Political organization Democratic Party (DP) Fred Mukasa Mbidde has today urged party supporters to desist from attacking fellow opposition members.
Addressing press today, Mbidde said this abrasive approach of confronting Non-DP members contradicts the visions and goals of DP.
“Members of DP you need to know that Democratic Party is the only party you have. DP is all you have. You are just like a hunter with one arrow; you cannot begin using it with careless aim,” he advised.
Furthermore the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) legislator added that this was likely to sway them away from attaining overwhelming victory in the 2021 polls.
As such, Mbidde advised Party supporters not to engage in petty fights with their opposition adversaries but to concentrate on the task at hand.
“From now on, call everybody in the opposition your brother and your sister. Don’t compete against any of them, just run for office and win,” he implored.
“The National Resistance Movement is actually an elephant sitting in state house. If you are to eat an elephant, you must cut it into pieces, you don’t cut fellow hunters.”
This call was re-echoed by DP President Norbert Mao.
“UPC, FDC, NUP don’t have the ball. They are also sweating looking for the ball. Therefore we need to attack President Museveni who has the ball,” Mao interjected.
However, Mao warned DP leaders against working with the Party’s competitors saying the Party was not a ‘round about’ or ‘Play Ground’.
“That is hypocrisy. Why would Gen Tumukunde (Henry) go to Iganga and call a DP Chairman. You are under instructions from the President. If you entertain that nonsense, you are going to be in problems with me and the Constitution,” Mao said.
So far, the Party’s Secretary General Gerald Siranda Black says 265 members aspiring for different constituencies across Uganda have picked forms and many more are expected ahead of the closing deadline which is on Friday September 19 2020.
On the other hand, Sentongo Sharif Nambaale the Kampala DP Chairperson says1500 members have picked forms to compete for various local government positions across Kampala.
