The youth Representative for Western Uganda Hon. Mpaka Mwine has urged traders in Mbarara City to position themselves in a way that helps them to benefit from government programs.
Hon Mpaka said Government is not capable of solving each citizen’s individual problems but it’s the people who need to put themselves in situations that makes it easy to help them.
“You should select leaders that care about your problems and air them out frequently, form cooperative groups and directly apply for government programs, that have been put in place to help you financially” he said.
This was during his visit to traders in the new Mbarara central market located at the independence park on Saturday
Hon. Mwine had visited the market to deliver a 5m cheque he has promised to a group of traders that are selling chicken in the market but also meet the other traders to discuss their challenges.
He asked the traders to always appreciate government efforts and programs put in place to address their issues
“The government is building a new modern market for you. Although there have been delays, the market will be finished soon and will be handed back to you. The government has also put in place to youths fund and women fund to finance youth and women groups. All these can benefit you if you are organized” he said
According to the vice chairperson of the Market, Margret Tumwesigye, the traders are still facing challenges like heavy taxes and limited customers
“Since we shifted to this new place, a lot of traders are finding difficult in sustaining their businesses because there are no customers, we are not making sells hence we don’t have enough money to pay for trading licences, electricity and security bills” she said
Hon Mwine in response to their issues promised to pay Shs2m per month for electricity and security bills for the entire market from now up to 2021
Hon Mwine is said to be interested in contesting for the Mbarara Municipality MP on the NRM ticket in 2021
