Presidential hopeful Ambrose Kyomukama on Thursday appeared before Mbarara Grade I magistrates court and was charged and remanded to Kakiika government prison in Kyamugorani, for allegedly flouting guidelines instituted to prevent the spread of Covid 19.
Kyomukama appeared before Magistrates Paul Mujuni where he was charged with disobedience of lawful orders, holding an unlawful procession and negligent actions likely to spread infection of diseases.
Prosecution told court that Kyomukama on July 27, was found holding unlawful meetings in Kijungu Market Cell in Nyamityobora Ward, Kakoba Division, contrary to the Ministry of Health guidelines and the Uganda Electoral Commission rules that prohibited open campaigns.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded to Prison till Monday August 10th 2020 when the case will come up for further mention.
Kyomukama is among the people that have expressed interest to stand in the forthcoming elections as presidential candidates to challenge President Museveni.
