Mbarara NRM leaders launch initiative to canvass votes for Museven
NRM leaders in Mbarara District have launched a youth initiative for mobilizing support for President Museveni ahead of 2021 elections.
The initiative dubbed ‘Museveni 99 percent’ was launched on Monday at the district headquarters in Bwizibweera.
The district NRM chairman, Mr Prosper Tuheise, advised the youth to get united and demand for their share of resources.
Mr Eliot Tweteise, the chairperson of the Museveni 99 percent, too said the role of youth becomes much more visible during elections urging them to get organized and get out of the web.
“It’s the youth that are paid to cause violence, to run after candidates, dance and carry them but they paid is less than Shs 5000 daily, packets of alcohol, T-shirts and other petty gifts. But we are now getting organized and it will not be business as usual, “Mr Tweteise said.
He added that they have chosen to rally behind President Museveni because he has initiated several efforts for transforming the country.
Mr Justus Kamuhanda, the head of youth and institutions desk in the President’s Office, urged youth to look beyond elections period. “The youth should know that an election is a season and when that season gets over , go into other things-development…But the problem is some youth even after the political season they want to keep in this same mood,” Mr Kamuhanda said.
He added that campaigning is not a job and asked challenged youth to use the season to ally with people who can facilitate their social and economic well-being.
