Minister of State for Animal Industry Hon. Joy Kabatsi has directed police in Mbarara to block any planned activity on the peace of land on which the District Veterinary office is situated.
The 0.9 acre piece of land located on Boma hill opposite new NSSF offices, is reported being claimed by Hon. Charles Ngabirano, the MP of Rwampara.
Minister Kabatsi made the directive to Police on Thursday evening after receiving phone calls from the national veterinary association president that the said government land had been sold to Hon Ngabirano.
“The president Uganda Veterinary Association called me saying that our offices in Mbarara were being taken. I asked how. He answered that even the DVO had already been kicked out and that soon the offices would be demolished. That’s why I drove to come here today,” the minister revealed.
Kabatsi advised the MP and the people he connived with to acquire the land, to withdraw immediately, stressing that this is government land.
“Whoever gave him that land title, he should take it back.”
Kabatsi further appealed to government to secure all its land which he said is being targeted by rich men.
“I talked to the minister of lands and also chairman Uganda Land Commission (ULC) Mr. Baguma Isoke to help us.”
When contacted for a comment, MP Ngabirano confirmed that he bought the land from one Grace Muhairwe in 2013.
“I started buying that land in 2013 and I made the final payment in 2015. (Muhairwe) also got the clearance to sell me the land from Uganda Lands Commission,” the MP revealed.
The MP stressed that he followed all due diligence and added that Minister Kabatsi was “fed with lies.”
“I got clearance from the Uganda Lands Commission and from the district even before I paid, so if the minister was saying otherwise, she may not have got right information. But we shall share with her so that there is no fracas.” said Ngabirano
The MP said he intended to build a hotel on the piece of land.
