Police in Mbarara have in detention a 34-year-old man who allegedly battered his one mother to death in a domestic violence incident.
The suspect Joseph Asiimwe is said to have killed his mother, one Nakibule Restatuta, 66, on Sunday night at around 9pm.
Regional Police spokesperson Samson Kasasira says Asiimwe cornered his mother in her bedroom, and started punching her and kicking till he killed her.
The incident happened in Katojo Cell in Nyakayojo Division Mbarara City.
“Thereafter the suspect dragged the deceased’s body to the path that leads to the house,” Kasasira said.
“The suspect has been arrested and the body of the deceased taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem.”
Upon being questioned by police, Kasasira says Asiimwe confessed to committing the offence.
While his motive was not yet established, Asiimwe is said to have suffered mental illness in the past.
Motive of the act is not yet established but according to preliminary findings the suspect has had a history of mental illness.
