Mbarara: EC Meets Special Interest Groups Ahead of 2016

Electoral commission yesterday held a regional workshop at Perikan hotel in Mbarara to prepare for the 2015/2016 General Elections.

During the meeting, this the special interest groups (SIGS) like the youths and People with Disabilities (PWDs) expressed their concerns before the EC’s Public Relations officer Jotham Taremwa.

PWDs Mbarara District representative, this web Francis Beyanga started by asking the EC to grant them permission to select their registrars and eliminate people who claim to fall in the PWDs category yet they are not disabled.

Beyenga went on and urged the electoral commission to ban all fundraisings which he said were will disrupt the commission’s activities like the display of electoral registrars.

Aspiring youth MP western region Muhumuza Edwin asked EC to put nomination forms at the village level so as to ease the work of unemployed youth who can’t meet transport costs.

He further asked the EC committee members to include a youth representative on the tribunal committee like elders who have a representative.
