Livingstone Mbabazi and Paul Mucurezi have been named the Pilsner coach and player of the month respectively in the Uganda Premier League.
Mbabazi and Mucurezi both from Mbarara City FC were named the best during the month of November in a function held at Kati Kati Restaurant on Monday.
The duo were influential at Ankole Lions helping the team for their first time in history ascend to the summit of the league.
Mucureezi scored twice and assisted on three occasions during the month of November with the two goals coming against SC Villa and BUL FC.
He walked away with a cash prize of one million shillings courtesy of sponsors Pilsner Lager.
The former KCCA FC midfield thanked the sponsors for the initiative and promised to work harder.
” I thank the sponsors and the league committee for naming me as the best player of November. It means a lot to me and I believe this will motivate me to even work harder. ” hr said.
To win the award, Mucurezi beat competition from Timothy Awany of KCCA FC and Juma Balinya of Police FC. The latter declined to be named due to religious affiliations.
Mbabazi who was not present at the function had the Mbarara City FC CEO represent him. He edged Police FC manager Abdallah Mubiru who just like Balinya declined to be nominated.
Edgar Kihumulo, the brand manager Pilsner Lager indicated that as a brand, they are committed towards supporting the game of football.
” As Pilsner Lager, we are committed towards supporting football and more so with players being the beneficiaries. That’s why we came on board as man of the match, player and coach of the month.” he said.
Joel Madondo of Kirinya Jinja SS and Javier Martinez Espinoza of Vipers SC won the player and coach of the month award respectively in October.
