Mbarara Chief Magistrate Samuel Twakire on Wednesday found a prima facie case against 5 suspects including a UPDF soldier, who are accused of attacking and burning a local politician with acid.
The suspects led by Bonny Tashobya Karutsya, the speaker of Mbarara Municipal Council are said to have conspired to pour the abrasive chemical onto Amos Katureebe, the district councilor of Nyamityobora on November 8, 2017 while he retired his home from work.
Court yesterday heard from the final prosecution witness, Francis Kabera, who works in the data entry system at Airtel.
The divulged the telephone records confirming the communication between the suspects before they carried out the attack.
After hearing from all 13 witnesses, Magistrate Twakire said court was convinced that all the accused have a case to answer, and asked the suspects to prepare their defense.
The case as adjourned to 13 September 2018.
