Mbarara City Football Club spent most of their maiden season in the Uganda Premier League fighting to survive relegation. They eventually managed to beat the drop and stay in the top tier league.
The struggles could have been a lesson for the Ankole Lions who seem to be working on a number of issues before the 2018/19 season gets underway.
The club has officially revealed that Livingstone Mbabazi will be their head coach after agreeing on a two year deal.
Edgar Abaasa, the club PRO confirmed to this website that Mbabazi has been appointed the new coach replacing care taker manager Sam Kawalya.
“ Mbarara City FC after a series of negotiations has agreed to bring on board Mr. Livingstone Mbabazi as the head coach on a two year deal.” He said.
The former Onduparaka FC tactician will be tasked to transform Mbarara City FC into a more competitive side next season rather than a club that fights for survival.
At the time of his appointment, the former Uganda Cranes midfielder has been a coach at FUFA Big League side Kyetume and helped the Mukono based side reach the promotional playoffs but failed to qualify.
Mbarara City FC had several changes in the technical team last season with Richard Makumbi, Vialley Bainomugisha,Ibrahim Kirya and Sam Kawalya all taking charge.
In a related development, the club is set to appoint Stefan Hannisson from Sweden as the technical director. Hannisson is expected to jet into the country this weekend.
