The Busoga Kingdom has entered into a ten-year partnership with Mayuge Sugar Industries limited to sponsor the Masaza Cup.
The new marriage was announced on Saturday at the kingdom’s headquarters by officials of the company and the kingdom chiefs and staff led by the Katikiro Dr. Joseph Muvawala.
“This is an important day to the kingdom as we receive the first-ever sponsorship partner of the Busoga Masaza cup,” the elated prime minister announced to the members of the media, chiefs, Masaza team managers and officials present.
“Mayuge Sugar Industries Limited has made history by becoming the first sponsor of the Masaza cup to a tune of ninety-three million four hundred thirty thousand shillings (Ush. 93, 430, 000). This money will help in catering for the prize money, referees fees, registration fees for each Masaza team and other related costs,” he further revealed the contents of the package.
Muvawala revealed that the winning team will walk home with Ush. 5,000,000 while the first, second and third runners up will get Ushs. 2.2M, 1.1M and 450, 000 respectively.
The games will be launched officially on September 7th at Mainstreet Primary school with a fixture between Butembe and Bunha counties. His Majesty William Wilberforce Nadiope IV, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, and the speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga will officially grace the opening ceremony.
Busoga kingdom is made up of 11 chiefdoms but because some are too large, they have been divided into two to make up 14 teams for the Masaza.
