Uganda Cubs 5-0 Kenya
Uganda Cubs started their mission to defend the CECAFA U-17 zonal championship on a high note after obliterating noisy neighbors Kenya 5-0 in the opening game played at Rubavu stadium, in Rwanda on Wednesday.
KCCA Soccer Academy youngster Oscar Mawa starred with a hat-trick while other strikes came through Travis Mutyaba and Ronald Madoi.
Mawa opened the goal fest inside the opening Eight minutes with a near post header and Kenya resorted to damage limitation as the game to ended 1-0 at half time.
After recess, Uganda Cubs returned more powerful as Mawa doubled their lead and completed his hat trick in a space of four minutes )between the 50th and 54th minutes).
Mutyaba and Madoi later completed the rout adding their names on the score sheet with 78th and 85th minute strikes respectively ending the day on cloud nine.
The win hands Uganda Cubs a place in the semifinals while Kenya’s slim chances for progress to the next stage will be determined by the outcome of the final group B fixture between Uganda and Ethiopia on Friday this week.
Both Kenya and Ethiopia are tied on one (1) point apiece but the former has completed all its outings. The finalists will directly qualify for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations tournament slated for next year in Mauritania.
