The People of Kikingura village in Bwijanga Sub-county Masindi district are in panic following the death of one resident who presented symptoms of the deadly Ebola Virus.
According to the Bwijanga sub-county LC3 chairperson Olivia Mugisa, one of the residents of the area Simon Buhangamaiso developed sickness with signs related to Ebola.
He was rushed to Ntooma Health Center II, but his sickness intensified and was transferred to the Kitara Medical center where he died from at the end of last year.
Mugisa said the late Buhangamaiso was buried on 1st January by a team of officials from the Ministry of Health who also took samples of the body to the Uganda Virus Research Institute to ascertain the cause of death.
The Subcounty chairperson who is also a resident of the same area says people are now living in fear although results have not yet been released.
When contacted, the Masindi district health Officer Dr. John Turyangaruka confirmed receiving reports. He also confirmed that a team of Officials from Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) conducted the burial of the victim.
Turyagaruka calls for calm among the community since samples were taken to Uganda Virus Research Center Entebe for testing. He said they are expecting the results today.
