Masaza Cup: Ssewaali’s Late Strike Salvages Point for Ssingo

Ssingo 1-1 Buluuli

Two-time Masaza Cup champions Ssingo and Buluuli (have won one championship) played to a 1-1 draw in the Butikkiro group of the 16th cup edition on Sunday afternoon at FUFA Technical Center, Njeru in Jinja district.

Joseph Ssewaali’s late equalizer cancelled out Henry Tenywa’s first half goal for Buluuli as both teams shared spoils in the second draw of the group following another 1-1 draw in the opener between Bulemeezi and Butambala.

Buluuli went into the lead thanks to second half substitute Henry Tenywa’s powerful shot that left goalkeeper Fred Ntege helpless.

Tenywa after replacing Johnson Senyonga five minutes earlier, met a blocked shot off Sembuusi Abdu Razake, to deliver a stunner and put Buluuli in front. Buluuli missed their tactician Mugerwa Noah from the touchline having tested positive for covid-19 before the game.

With four minutes to the end of the game, Ssingo found an equalizer thanks to Joseph Ssewaali’s low drive that beat goalkeeper Salim Abudallah Ssekamwa.

The draw sees four of the teams in Butikkiro group; Butambala, Ssingo, Buluuli and defending champions all earn a point from their matches played.
