2019 Masaza Cup finalists Busiro and youthful Busujju Ssaza teams have directly progressed to the quarter-finals of the 16th edition from the Bulange group.
Busiro pipped Buwekula 3-1 in the final group match played on Tuesday afternoon at the FUFA Technical Center, Njeru in Jinja district thanks to Gerrard Ogweti’s brace and Usama Arafat wonder strike.
Fahad Nsuki got the consolation for Buweekula from a well struck goal in an acute angle off an assist by midfielder Sande Yiga leaving goalkeeper Mutumba Adad helpless.
Victory ensured Busiro as the Bulange group leaders with 10 points, three ahead of second placed Busujju that finished with 7 points after four games.
Busujju had earlier defeated Buvuma 3-1 courtesy of Omirambe Brian’s brace and towering midfielder Ivan Irinimbabazi’s reflex header.
Busujju would have scored four but Kakande Shafik failed to convert his kick from the penalty mark. Bruno Bunyaga found the consolation for Buvuma.
The three eliminated teams include Kyaggwe who finished 3rd (5 points) alongside Buweekula (4) and blunt Buvuma who only managed one draw in this year’s edition claiming just a point.
The quarter-final stage now has four teams in Bulemeezi and Mawogola that progressed from the Butikkiro group alongside Busiro and Busujju from Bulange.
The third group (Masengere) is expected to touch base at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Wednesday, with four teams in three time Masaza Cup winners Mawokota, Kyadondo, Kooki and Bugerere.
