Work yesterday came to a standstill in Masaka as Residents led by the family of the late S.B Kyewalyanga stormed Masaka District Land Board offices seeking explanation to what they called fraudulent practices in his operations.
The group, stuff brandishing posters demanded that Mr Herman Galiwango the Land Board chairman to explain why he harasses the locals to the extent of working against court orders.
One of them Nteete Gyavira brought documents pinning Galiwango for making transfers on their family land yet on 31st March 217, price Masaka High Court judge Justice Flavian Zeija issued a caveat on the land in question until the main application in High court is disposed of.
Gyavira says they tried to report this matter to various authorities but all their efforts were futile.
The land that Kyewalyanga accuses Galiwango of illegally transferring to another person’s name in violation of the interim order is located at Luteete, check Lukaya Town on Block 147 plots 15, 24 and 51.
Police commanded by Masaka DPC SP John Mwawule intervened and asked the demonstrators to calm down and first report the matter to Masaka Police Station which they did.
The DPC then entered in a meeting with the land officers including Galiwango but journalists were locked.
Galiwango declined to comment on this matter but after the meeting the DPC revealed that he acknowledged receipt of the different court orders on the same land but he took the decision of the latest order.
“Galiwango showed me a file with court orders dated 4th April 2017 signed by the Assistant Registrar High court Masaka lifting the caveat on the land which he says that it’s the one he implemented” Mwawule revealed.
