A Local Defence Unit officer who this afternoon opened fire on a man and woman, killing them has been put out of action.
The LDU has been identified as Robert Muyaga, while the victims were identified as Francis Musasiza and Jackline Nagasha.
Muyaga was caught by CCTV, shooting the two as they were preparing to board a bodaboda.
After fleeing the scene, he was traced and found in a room in a guest house where he had been hiding, and killed after he reportedly resisted arrest.
Police in the Greater Masaka Region in an earlier statement said the UPDF had surrounded the building where Muyaga was hiding.
The Police also revealed that Muyaga killed the victims out of jealousy.
“He suspected Musasizi to be in love with his wife. He found them together at the hospital,” Police said.
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces spokesman Brig Richard Karemire confirmed the shooting of Muyaga.
“The killer has since been shot dead in an exchange of fire with a UPDF squad while resisting arrest,” Karemire said.
“I condemn the shooting by a member of the reserve forces that resulted into the death of two civilians. We convey our deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Investigations into the incident have commenced.”
