Two individuals have petitioned the Electoral Commission seeking to disqualify Mr Godfrey Kayemba from Kimanya Kabonera Parliamentary race in Masaka city for alleged lack of academic requirements.
Mr Kayemba, who is also the current mayor of Masaka is the FDC flag bearer in this parliamentary race.
In the petition filed through their lawyers of Ssemwanga and Muwazi Company Advocates, Mr Kigula Rogers and Samula Charles, both residents of the same constituency allege that Kayemba doesn’t have an A Level certificate
” Upon inspection…our clients found that Mr Kayemba didn’t submit to the Registrar his Uganda Certificate of Advanced Education (UACE) as required by law but instead submitted a mere letter from UNEB which indicated that he sat for A Level examination at St Johns SSS Kabuwoko in 1997,” the lawyers told EC.
“Section 3 (c) of the Parliamentary Elections Act states that a person shall be regarded as a duly nominated candidate for constituency and nomination shall be referred void if that person has not provided to the Registrar on Nomination UACE certificate or its equivalent.”
“The purpose of this letter is to move the Electoral Commission as proved for under Parliamentary Elections Act section 15 (b) to disqualify the said Kayemba Godfrey from the race of Member of Parliament for Kimanya Kabonera Constituency.”
Mr Kayemba is still tight lipped on the above allegations as they await the response from the Electoral body.
In the race for this Parliamentary seat is Dan Ntale a former Uganda Cranes Defender, Chris Nakyejwe, Hon Mukasa Mbidde and others.
