Maroons FC 0-0 URA FC
Newly promoted side Maroons FC drew goalless with URA FC in a less contested game played at Luzira Prison grounds.
Both teams came into the game in hope of returning to winning ways after losing their previous league encounters.
The first minutes of the game predicted a big picture of what was to come as both teams struggled to retain possession, even in their own halves as the first half ended goalless.
Hosts Maroons started the second half the hungriest, with Godwin Kitagenda making several overlaps to deliver in-swingers but URA FC defenders managed to respond in equal measures with clearances.
The tax collectors came close to scoring an opener but Saidi Kyeyune’s free-kick way from 40 yards went just an inch over the bar.
URA FC coach Ibrahim Kirya went with a wild decision when he replaced creative midfielder Brian Majwega for Abdulahuman Ajab.
Ajab’s introduction gave URA FC some breathing space as the tall energetic player introduced pace at the far attacking end of the pitch.
Bokota Labama had a chance on the goal’s mouth following Allan Anguyo’s blunder but Maroons Keeper came out to save the day, before the referee called off the game.
The draw leaves URA FC with 4 points from 3 games while Maroons FC moves to 2 points.
URA FC Coach Ibrahim Kirya: “My boys are still new at the team, so they are still not confident. We lost two points but we will build their confidence slowly by slowly. There is still a week to prepare for the next game.”
Maroons FC Coach Asaph Mwebaze: “… Actually I was disappointed when we lost to Onduparaka but today’s performance was way up there. We came back and closed down URA FC, although we failed to hurt them. The boys have done a good job to pick a point.”
What next for both sides
Maroons will return to league action on Saturday September 30 with a tough trip to Wankulukuku against Express FC.
URA FC will on Friday September 29 play KCCA FC in Mandela National Stadium in Namboole.
