Maroon’s Bamweyana, A Dead Man Walking After Defeat

Uganda Premier League Results | Match day 25

Maroons 0-1 Express

Douglas Bamweyana’s Job hangs in the balance after his team, Maroons FC lost 0-1 at home against Express on Thursday evening at Luzira prisons playground.

This is Maroons’ fifth consecutive Uganda Premier League defeat, yet Bamweyana was previously given an ultimatum of three games to prove whether he is the right man for the job.

This defeat follows the prison warders’ a 5-0 demolition by Vipers SC at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende last week.

In-form forward, Frank Kalanda scored the priceless goal that gifted Wasswa Bbosa’s team a brilliant win as the league heads into a two-month break.

Kalanda received a ball from second half substitute Dissan Galiwango (c) in the goal area before firing the Red Eagles into the lead.

“We have played very well but unfortunately we were not lucky on the evening. My players had many scoring chances but failed to convert them in the final third. We expect to make amendments and will bounce back stronger after the break,” said a hopeful Bamweyana.

Maroons’ best chance came from Steven Mukwala who was kept out by shot-stopper, Mathias Muwanga in a one-on-one challenge.

Muwanga also saved Arthur Kiggundu’s header while Rashid Agau’s volley went over the cross bar.

The away side also has a wonderful opportunities to add to their tally when Express’ Daniel Shabena rattled the cross bar and later on Arthur Kiggundu hit the woodwork from a free kick.

Wasswa Bbosa hailed his players for a great performance and tenacity.

“I’m very excited about the win we have gotten on the road and we convincingly deserved it. We wanted this win badly and good enough my players did it as we had planned. We expect to sit on the drawing board and will even be stronger after the National team break,” said Bbosa

Maroons remain 13th on the table with just two points above the red zone while Express moved to the 9th on 31 points.

Maroons next visit Police on return from the break at Lugogo while Express host Wakiso Giants at Wankulukuku in May.
