The Democratic Party (DP) presidential candidate Nobert Mao has promised to compensate war victims in Moyo district who were devastated by the 20-year Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency of Joseph Kony.
Mao who was canvasing for votes for Uganda’s top job, said the current Government has severally promised to compensate war victims in Northern Uganda but has not honoured its promise.
“This place here was in war. Most of Northern Uganda was in war. Whenever there are elections they (Government) start telling us, we are going to compensate you. We are not going to beg for compensation. For how long are we going to beg?” Mao asked.
Mao on the other hand encouraged voters not to be intimidated by pro-government elements, adding that National Resistance Movement (NRM) is not the first to lead this country.
“I want to warn those who like intimidating people, when a big tree falls, it falls on smaller trees. When Museveni falls, he will fall on his security people who are threatening us here. So, stop threatening people. Let people vote freely. If they did not want us to be voted, they should not have allowed us nominate.”
