City Hall Court in Kampala has sentenced 36-year-old Edson Mumbere to three years in jail after being convicted of stealing cans of Kiwi shoe polish from the supermarket.
This followed Mumbere’s guilty plea while appearing before grade one Magistrate Valerian Tuhimbise.
Mumbere pleaded for a lenient sentence saying he didn’t waste court’s time to demand a full trial.
The convict told court that he decided to steal the shoe police because he was unaware of the CCTV cameras planted in the supermarket.
The magistrate however, declined to grant his request for a non-custodial sentence, saying there was proof that the convict is a habitual thief in Supermarkets.
At the time of his arrest, Mumbere was still serving a community service punishment handed to him by the same court.
Prosecution states that on 20th August 2019 at Capital Shoppers supermarket Ntinda branch, Membere stole eight pieces of Kiwi Shoe polish valued at approximately 87000shillings.
