Police in Ibanda have launched a hunt for a 64-year-old man suspected to have murdered his wife on Saturday.
This was confirmed by Ibanda District Police Commander SP Rodgers Chebene who identified the suspect as Henry Mugisha, a resident of Rwengwe village, Kikyenkye sub-county in Ibanda district.
The deceased has been identified as Rosemary Kasande. She was 53.
An eyewitnesses named Alex Nuwamanya told this reporter that when Mugisha came home on Saturday morning, he quarreled with the wife, and later he went to sharpen his panga; when he entered the house again, Nuwamanya had Kasande making an alarm.
On entering, he found when Mugisha had cut off her neck and her arm.
Kasande was an aunt to Nuwamanya.
OC CID Ibanda Police Station Susan Tumugumye who was speaking from the scene of crime urged local to always report to police when they have domestic related problems instead of resorting to homicide.
Chebene noted that case of domestic violence were rising in the district, and he called on locals to engage leaders when such issues come up.
The body of the deceased was taken to Ruhoko Health Center IV in Ibanda for postmortem.
