High Court Judge Elizabeth Kabanda has sentenced a 37year old hawker to serve 47years in Luzira prison after convicted him of aggravated robbery.
Ssemanda and others still at large on September 18th 2016 at Busega round about in Kampala, are said to have hired John Bosco Ssenyondo to drive them to Kabojja to pick up a patient.
However, court heard that instead, these turned against the driver, strangled him with a rope and carjacked his motor vehicle, a Toyota Ipsum.
The judge said she was convinced by the prosecution evidence which proved beyond reasonable doubt that Ssemanda committed the crime.
Among the witnesses who pinned Kabanda was Senyondo, the victim who said he survived death.
The trial judge also noted that the convict has not been remorseful at all, and that court’s time and resources by demanding a full trial.
The 47years sentence she said, would serve as a lesson to deter other would-be offenders from committing the same offence
“It is court’s duty to protect society from lawlessness by keeping away such people from the public,” she ruled.
