High Court judge Jane Francis Abodo on Friday sentenced 37 year old Godfrey Sengendo to 15 years in jail, after convicting him of rape.
Sengendo was found guilty of breaking into the house of his boss, and forcing himself on the 70 year old.
Although Sengendo had asked for a lenient sentence, the judge said he needed a deterrent sentence to discourage other would be offenders.
Prosecution told court that Sengendo committed the crime on November 26th 2015 at his boss’s house in Jagala Village, Gombe Sub County in Wakiso District where he worked as an animal keeper.
While convicting him mid this week, the judge relied on the evidence of various prosecution witnesses including the victim herself, who told court that she recognized culprit after feeling his dreaded hair and identifying his voice in the process of threatening her to kill her in case she made any noise.
She further informed court that in a bid to escape from Ssengendo, she tried to deceive him that she was HIV positive but he did not listen.
This incident she said happened at night during a heavy down pour.
The convict has been sent to Luzira to serve his sentence and advised that he still has a right to appeal against both sentence and conviction in case he is not contented.
This was one of the 1000 cases which were fixed to be heard in a special session of Sexual and Gender based violence of High court in a bid to reduce on case back log in the system
