A man collapsed and died this morning at the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court, sparking panic among the court-goers and staff.
The man, identified as Ephraim Kizito, collapsed and died in the Magistrates Chambers before His Worship John Okipi, according to a statement from the Judiciary.
The 70-year-old deceased was a resident of Nabutiti, Kansanga in Makindye Division.
The cause of his death while still unknown is unlikely attributable to the court proceedings, as he was not part of any ongoing case.
“He had only accompanied his wife Rosemanry Kizito for the hearing of her case,” said Solomon Muyita the judiciary spokesman.
Mrs Kizito was appearing before the magistrate for the mention of her case in which she is accused of assault and causing bodily harm.
Her husband, during the session, suddenly collapsed and died instantly, Muyita says.
“Court was immediately adjourned and the unfortunate incident communicated to the resident divisional commissioner and the DPC Katwe.”
Police rushed to the scene to conduct investigations in to the cause of death, and the body was later taken for post-mortem.
