A 29 year old man has been arrested by police in Kabale for stealing construction materials from All Saints Church, Katuna.
The suspect is Douglas Niwagaba, a resident of Burambira Cell in Katuna Town council.
The parish priest Rev. Christopher Matsiko says he received a call on Saturday morning at around 8:30 am from the All Saints Church Lay Leader Godson Tibesigwa, informing him that 40 iron bars had been stolen in the night from the church construction site.
Matsiko says while they were still searching for the materials, Barbra Kyasiimire, one of the locals called revealing that she saw Niwagaba packing the bars on a lorry which headed toward Kabale town.
A case was reported at Katuna police post, and the police working with locals hunted down and arrested Niwagaba.
The iron bars were later recovered from one of the scrap dealers in Karubanda trading centre in Kitumba Sub County.
Fredrick Wataya, the head of criminal investigations at Kabale police station says Niwagaba is currently detained at the station pending his arraignment in court for theft.
