Police in Namutumba district has hunted down a man who has been operating and defrauding the public through a fake Facebook page in the names of the Inspector General of Police.
The suspect according to police has been identified as Geoffrey Kalele a resident of Namutumba District.
In a statement, the CID spokeman, Vincent Ssekate said the suspect opened up a Facebook account in the names of Martin Okoth Ochola between March and June and has been using it to defraud the public.
Sekate said Kalele has been using the fake account to give orders to officers and some unsuspecting officers would follow them.
“After his arrest, Kalele accepted his crime and confessed to coning and defrauding people,” said the police publicist
Police also established that the suspect had so far collected shs700,000 from the public which he he says [suspect] he used to pay school fees for his children.
