MAK Student Leaders Give University 48-Hour Ultimatum To Have Lectures

The Makerere University students’ leaders have given the University a 48-hour ultimatum to solve lecturers’ problems and get them back to work.

The students said if these issues are not resolved by Friday 25th  at Midday, they too will be joining the strike.

Makerere’s lecturers are striking due to misunderstandings with the university administration, over a number of issues including suspension of their colleagues and composition of the university council.

Isaac Kwagala, the students’ Guild Speaker told press yesterday that students too have their own grievances with the administration.

“We are also rejecting the newly gazetted student’s regulations to guide the guild elections,” he said. “We tired of the continued injustices meted on us by the university management”

The newly gazetted University guild elections regulations ban rallies in halls of residence, restrict campaign days and tag campaign finances as requirement for standing for leadership positions.

“We shall mobilize students to take to the streets and all the University management should not be tempted to issue any warning letter or suspension to students during this period”.
