Magogo: Uganda Cranes Recent Success is Not Accidental

Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) President, stuff Engineer Moses Magogo  has come out to indicate the recent success achieved by the national football team (Uganda Cranes) has been out of proper planning rather than accidental.

Magogo while addressing the media on Wednesday at FUFA headquarters in Mengo noted that the success of the cranes is a result of eight core points that the Federation and other stake holders looked at and implemented.

“The recent success we are talking about has not been accidental but it is out of commitment and proper planning that finally we have started to bear fruits, ed ” Magogo said.

“It is only Uganda in the whole COSAFA and CECAFA regions that has qualified for African Cup of Nations finals and still playing in the World cup qualifiers,” he further stressed.

“I remember, we had a football symposium where we hinted out on key indicators and it’s from some of those that we have been able to see progress in the recent past,” Magogo added.

Magogo however put emphasis on resources and stressed that without proper and coordinated funding, the national team cannot operate smoothly.

“We have operated on a small budget but because we sat and set priorities, we looked at the key areas that would help the team,” he said.

“Transporting these players from wherever they are playing is not cheap, facilitating them and making sure they are happy and settled in camp doesn’t come cheap.”

“However, every time we have received financial support from His Excellency, we have yielded good results. The chartered flights we have got have been important. Therefore we think if the resources were adequate and the funding was regular, probably we would not wait for 38 years to qualify,” he added.

The other factors that the FUFA President talked about included the role of media, the playing stuff, government support, coaches, sponsors, the domestic league that has been wrangle free in the previous two campaigns and internal organisation within FUFA.
