Magistrate Threatens To Arrest MP Kakooza For Skipping Court Sessions

Lyantonde Grade One magistrate has threatened to issue an arrest warrant for  Kabula County MP James Kakooza for skipping  court sessions.

Mr Kakooza was recently dragged to court on accusations of assault, but has twice failed to appear in court.Court presided over by Abdullah Khaiza  on Tuesday heard that Kakooza assaulted Raadi Kamalumba, a councillor  representing  Kooki Ward, Lyantonde Town Council in Lyantonde District.

However, Kakooza did not appear in court, but was represented by his lawyer Ausi Zimumenya Kibuule.

Kibuule told court that his client was sick and had gone to see his doctor but the magistrate rejected the argument, saying  Mr Kakooza was  deliberately  skipping  court which will not be tolerated.

Last month, Mr Kakooza failed to attend court and his lawyer informed the magistrate that the Speaker of Parliament had sent him on duties abroad.

His worship Khaiza set May 14 as the hearing date and ordered Kakooza to appear without fail.
