Madondo, Espinoza Named Player, Coach of the Month of October


Vipers SC manager Javier Martinez Espinoza and Kirinya Jinja SS striker Joel Madondo have been named coach and player of the month of October respectively.

This was revealed on Tuesday morning as Uganda Premier League unveiled new sponsors Pilsner Lager in Luzira, Kampala.

The new partners comes on board as man of the match and player/coach of the month sponsors for the next three years.

To win the award, Espinoza beat off competition from KCCA FC head coach Mike Hilary Mutebi who was part of the short list.

The Mexican tactician won all three games and drew once in the four games that Vipers SC played.

He won 2-1 away to Maroons, beat SC Villa 3-1 at Mandela National stadium and edged new comers Nyamityobora FC 1-0 at home. The draw (2-2) came against Kirinya Jinja SS.

The manager was elated with the award and indicated this is a big motivating factor in making sure he achieves more at the club.


” I take this opportunity to thank the Uganda Premier League and the new sponsors Pilsner Lager for this initiative. The efforts of my team have been appreciated today through this award. I think the good performance we had was a result of team effort from the coaches to the players, administrators and fans,” he stated.

” I believe this award will help to motivate us into work harder and making sure we keep the good performance. ” Added Espinoza.

On the other hand, Madondo who is the current top scorer in the league with six goals scooped the prize beating off competition from Nelson Ssenkatuka and Dan Muzeeyi Sserunkuma.

Madondo currently with the U23 team in South Sudan scored four goals in four games in October with a brace in each of the games against Tooro United and Vipers SC.

Peter Mukembo, the Kirinya Jinja SS CEO picked Madondo’s award in his absence and lauded the new sponsors for the initiative.

” On behalf of Joel and Kirinya Jinja SS, I would like to express our gratitude towards the new sponsors Pilsner Lager for embracing local football. Such awards will help to motivate our players to work harder.” He said.

Both Madondo and Espinoza walked away with a cash price of one million shillings each that will be coming monthly.

The player of the match award that will be awarded on every other game in the league will come with a cash prize of Ushs 100,000/=.
