The Independents Coalition joint presidential candidate Pastor Joseph Mabirizi has resurfaced and is being questioned by authorities after disappearing for hours amidst claims that he was kidnapped.
Mabirizi reportedly went missing this morning from his hotel room in Luuka district in eastern Uganda.

When he asked who it was, the assailant said: “I am your bodyguard”. So he opened. It turned out that it was not his bodyguard but two strange men.’”
Half naked, Kalinge added, Mabirizi was walked to a waiting car, forced into the boot and driven off to a bungalow where he was ushered in a room and unfolded.
“In the room he saw three men dressed in military uniform and the two plain clothed ones that had picked him from the hotel. They made no attempt to hide their faces,” he added.
Police says however, that on hearing the news they jumped in pursuit and found the candidate at Namasoga village 5km from Iganga district at the house of the L.C 1 chairperson.
While Mabirizi and his campaign team claim he was kidnapped by government security agencies, the Uganda People’s Defense Forces has come out to dismiss claims, revealing that the candidate purposely slipped away from his guards to fake the kidnap.
“He used the opportunity to sneak out of the hotel to a village at Namukose leaving the hotel room flung open,” revealed the army spokesperson Paddy Ankunda in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
The development comes moments after another candidate Prof Venansius Baryamureeba announced that he was suspending his campaign due to lack of sufficient security.
