Lwengo: UPDF Tips Boda Boda Riders on Safety against Covid-19

In the lead up to the 40th Tarehe Sita anniversary celebrations, the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) officials have urged boda boda riders to be responsible citizens, guard themselves against Covid-19 and desist from partaking in any acts of violence during this election period.

Speaking at sensitization engagements extended by the UPDF to boda boda riders at various stages in Kyazanga and Lwengo districts, Major Kigozi Kaweesa cautioned boda boda riders on taking extra care of themselves as regards keeping Covid-19 at bay.

He noted that given the nature of their work which involves carrying different people to different locations, the riders are at a higher risk of contracting Covid-19.

Kigozi further highlighted some Standard Operating Procedures; urging the boda boda riders to set up hand washing points at their stages, clean the passenger seats after every trip, wear masks, put on helmets and carry a single passenger “to minimize chances of catching the virus.”

He also warned them against being manipulated and used to spread wrong information that could cause chaos within their communities during the election period.

The boda boda riders were given reflector jackets to reinforce their safety during the night shifts and foggy weather conditions.
