The National Resistance Movement Secretary General, Justin Kasule Lumumba has appealed to police to apprehend everyone involved in flouting the COVID-19 guidelines including the ruling party members.
Lumumba made the call during the inaugural weekly media briefing at the party headquarters at Plot 10 Kyadondo on Sunday.
She said that no one in the country is above the law based on their political affiliations and the guidelines issued by the government and the Ministry of Health should be strictly adhered to by all citizens.
“The guidelines are in place to protect the lives of all citizens irrespective of your (political) color,” said Lumumba.
The Secretary General said it is the responsibility of Police to enforce the guidelines and they should execute their duties without fear or favor.
“The DPCs (District Police Commanders) please act because it is your mandate to ensure the guidelines are followed by everyone. Arrest everyone breaching the guidelines including those in yellow,” she said.
Pictures and videos have emerged from many parts of the country showing NRM leaders holding huge rallies in their constituencies without observing the guidelines.
Lumumba announced at the same briefing that the NRM National Executive Council meeting (NEC) delegates shall meet at their respective districts on August 18, 2020. Later NEC shall be decentralized to 30 interactive sub-regional zones to be announced.
Meanwhile districts still under lockdown are going to hold standalone NEC meetings at their respective headquarters. The meetings are to consider the candidates for the 9 positions of Vice Chairpersons.
