Lukwago Wants Court to Vacate City Hall Premises

Kampala Lord mayor Erias Lukwago has called upon the Minister of Justice And Constitutional Affairs Hon Kahinda Otafiire together with the Principal Judge Yorokamu Bamwine to start working on plans to relocate City Hall Court from the headquarters of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

Addressing the gathering at the World Pro bono day celebrations held at Railway grounds in Kampala, adiposity Lukwago pointed out that the existence of this court at the headquarters of KCCA makes the people to believe that it is one of the organs of the Authority which makes them doubt its independence while executing its duties.

“We don’t have a court in our organs so the Judiciary should find a suitable location for this court because currently they don’t pay rent. We are not aiming at getting any money from the judiciary; all we need is for them to get another building elsewhere to relocate this court”

Lukwago added that some people after being arrested by KCCA enforcement officers and taken to the KCCA Court, more about they believe that it is their prosecutors that are deciding their fate and many end up not satisfied.

“The route to that court is next to my office and I am tired of hearing to people negotiating bribery deals near my office, ” Lukwago said.

In reply, the Justice Minister Kahinda Otafiire advised the Lord mayor to work with the
Authority to ensure that they secure a convenient location for this court since his role is only to provide them with Magistrates sitting in that court.
