Over 100 taxi operators and bodaboda riders have today undergone training on road safety and first aid.

“As a company we advise against under age consumption of alcohol, pregnant women and excessive drinking. The purpose of the training is to sensitize these drivers about dangers of drunk driving”
Norman Musinga, the Kampala Metropolitan Traffic Commander applauded Nile Breweries for partnering with Uganda Police to do the sensitization and spearhead the Road Safety Act.
“We mobilized these drivers and riders so they can be trained on the Road Safety Act. We have realized that accidents in Kampala Metropolitan are reducing as a result of raising such awareness” he said.
Musinga said that Police will do their part in carrying out operations accompanied by sensitization as well as taking to court those who will violate the Act.
“The major cause of accidents involving taxis and bodabodas is human error and discipline mainly by these drivers” Mayambala Mustafa, the Chairman Uganda Transport Agency told journalists that the training is a good idea which transport players welcome
“These programs have changed a lot and will help in ensuring the safety of passengers. We have also learnt what to do once an accident has occurred such as first aid” said Mustafa.
He added that there has been an improvement in behavior by taxi drivers and bodaboda riders as a result of sensitization.
On the issue of KCCA pressure on taxi drivers for improper parking, Mustafa said there was need to establish dropping and picking points around the city.
“Some of these drivers panic after seeing KCCA personnel chasing them which results into accidents” he added. Participants of the training received certificates and reflector jackets with road safety messages.

Addressing the press at St Matia Mulumba church in Kampala this evening, generic Lukwago pointed out that the top governing committee of Truth and Justice (T.J) had registered to become full member of the coalition but the governing committee of TDA refused to complete the registration process.
“We handed in our application to officially join the alliance but they have been tossing us and wasting our time up to today when the thing crumbled,” Lukwago remarked.
He added that his group would now have to move on.
“TDA gave us forms to be issued to our candidates but we are not going to give them out. We’ll take them to our archives and show the future generation that there was something by names of TDA” Lukwago revealed.
Lukwago further blamed officials in the Coalition for carrying out business in a dictatorial manner.
