Nabilah Naggayi Sempala, the incumbent Woman Member of Parliament of Kampala has picked nomination forms for the Kampala Lord Mayor Race from the National Unity Platform party (NUP) Election Management Committee.
Nagayi who was recently rejected by the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), after it (FDC) refused to receive her nomination forms on technical grounds, had since decided to stand as an independent.
That was until an opportunity opened up at the NUP when its flag bearer Hon Latif Ssebagala suddenly decided to drop out of the race.
“After the 2016 General Elections, I made the decision to run for Kampala Lord Mayor. You will recall that I attempted to run under my former party, FDC but I was blocked very unfairly. I then decided to run independent,” Nabila said.
“As everyone knows, I have been on record for over two years now, supporting the candidature of Hon. Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert for President because I believe that he represents something new in our struggle to liberate Uganda. That is in part why I joined NUP as a member a few days ago,”
Following the reopening of nominations for the position of Lord Mayor by NUP, Nabilah says she took the step of applying so that she is given the party ticket.
“I decided to fill the Expression of Interest forms and I will be presenting myself before the Committee for vetting. I am hopeful and reinvigorated!”
If she is given a ticket, Nagayi will be taking on incumbent mayor Erias Lukwago, NRM’s Daniel Kazibwe alias Ragadee, Joseph Mayanja alias Dr. Jose Chameleon who is on Independent ticket, in the forthcoming 2021 Kampala Mayoral race
