Refugees need not to be looked at a burden but a contributor to national development, H.E Henk Jan Bakker the Netherlands ambassador has said.
He made these remarks at the World Refugee Day art exhibition in Kampala.
Dwelling on their enormous potential, Bakker says Uganda can achieve a lot if these people stand to be helped.
“I think it’s most important to recognize the desire of 1.25 million individuals who have their talents. There are not burdens but are most likely to contribute to the country where they are”, Bakker said.
On Uganda’s part, Mr. Solomon Sonko from the Office of the Prime minister says persons of flight have been included on the National Development Plan 2.
He adds that there are various economic interventions in place to elevate refugee livelihoods.
Among artists recognized included youngsters; Juma Shantal, Mark Mene and Yaba Richard Seka aged 6, 8 and 9 years respectively.
