Thousands of mourners on Sunday afternoon overrode protocol and seized the bodies of former ambulances, but the huge crowds blocked them from speeding off.Arua County MP Hon Ibrahim Abiriga, and his brother Said Kongo, processioning with them on the streets of Arua Municipality.
The mourners had waited for hours at Arua Airfield for the bodies, which arrived minutes after 4pm by helicopter from Kampala.
The caskets were immediately placed in two ambulances as the thousands of locals who were lining on the side-lines started pouring into the airfield tarmac.
From the airfield, the ambulances were swarmed by loud mourners, who once in a while exchanged with police and military officers, who wanted them to give way.
About an hour into the slow procession, the locals demanded to be handed the bodies and security eventually gave in.
The Ambulances were opened and the residents removed the caskets and carried them on their heads all the way, amid singing and chanting.
Tomorrow, the locals are expected to have a chance to view the body before it is taken to Rhino-camp for burial.
