Local Sports Development The Main Target In Kwese-Azam Partnership

Local sports is to get wide viewership which will enhance fast development from that mileage, if we are to go with what was said during the launch of the partnership between Kwese and Azam TV.

Azam Media Group and Econet Media announced their partnership with the launch of Kwese Free Sports on AzamTv.

The event was held on Tuesday 11 December 2018 at Azam Uganda’s head offices in Kololo, where it was revealed that the move takes place with immediate effect.

“Azam subscribers will be able to access all the good local Sports content on Kwese Free Sports on channel 155,” Kalikwani Dennis, sales and marketing manager at Azam, delivered the good news to the sports journalists during a press briefing.

Kwese, Africa’s newest and most diverse 24 hour sports channel telecasts 70% local sports and the move to Azam (which has a wider audience in the region) is expected to extend Uganda’s sports across boarders.

“At Kwese, we only speak one language and that’s sports,” started Herbert Mucunguzi, Country Manager for Kwese TV. “We have to work hand in hand to promote our local stuff, we want to professionalise and promote sports in the country and this is a right move to start with.”

“We have a fully fledged studio, we do live sports events and we don’t compete with anyone. If you are out there and have some sports content, please share with us and we will give it mileage.”

He narrated that Kwese will go extra miles to see even forgotten games like Mweso and Ludo get more TV coverage, in a bid to develop and professionalise them.

Collins Mugume, who was also present at the event, added: “We broadcasted Netball and Rugby international tourneys which were held here last years, and we are in talks to see that we relay the famous ‘Masaza ga Buganda’ next year.”

He added that Kwese’s relationship with the Buganda Kingdom is very firm, citing the presence of Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga during the opening and closure of World Cup at Bulange. It should be remembered that Kwese granted BBS and UBC rights to air the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Beside local content, KFS brings to Azam quality sports content like Premier League, NBA and Premium pan African boxing tournaments.

Some of Azam TV’s package include Azam pure going for Sh10,000, Azam plus Sh25000 and Azam play at Sh37000.
