Local Movie ‘Lailah’ Scoops Four Awards At Uganda Film Festival

Uganda’s local movie Lailah has dominated this year’s Film Festival after scooping over four awards.

The film was awarded Best Feature Film, Viewer’s Choice Awards among others.

While giving the opening remarks, Julianne Mweheire, the Director Industry Affairs and Content Development applauded the film makers and thanked the sponsors for supporting the Uganda Film Festival.

“I want to thank the film makers for sharing their talent with us, we also thank our platinum sponsors including MTN Uganda, Stanbic, DStv Uganda and Uganda Tourism Board who have made this possible, we couldn’t have done this alone if not for your support.”

Uganda Communications Commission believes in streamlining and developing the film industry in Uganda.

The commission has carried a number of initiatives which include the Uganda Film Festival to see that the industry strives.

 

The major aim is to stimulate the film industry so as to enable it achieve its full potential as a source of employment, revenue creation, and preserve culture through local content.

The festival showcases local content in the film industry but also focuses on other facets of promoting the industry through trainings.

Best Director

Richard Mulindwa for Lailah

Best Actress in a Feature Film

Malaika Nyanzi for Bed of Thorns.

Viewers Choice AWard

Lailah

Life Achievement Award

Philip Luswata actor and founder of the fun factory took the award for his outstanding role in the film industry.

He has written for various radio & TV, produced several stage dramas,  written and  directed feature films among others.
