Local Government workers under the Uganda Local Government Workers Union (ULGWU) have petitioned President Yoweri Museveni to intervene in matters regarding elevation of their working conditions.
In a meeting held at Jokas Hotel Kampala, the workers unanimously agreed to seek the audience of the head of state before they resort to the last option of withdrawing their labor.
The resolution was backed by all country representatives from all the four regions of the country.
Hassan Mudiba the General Secretary ULGWU said the move to involve the president is meant to remind him of the agreement signed between government and the union.
“We request the president to spare some time out of his busy schedule to meet Local Government workers. We need him to look at measures that can be taken to bring us to level with our counter parts in public service and statutory bodies,” he said.
The workers among others, want Shs 412 billion meant for their salary increment to be included in the coming Supplementary Budget of Financial year 2019/2020.
These noted that their Union’s efforts to resolve their salary issues has not been adequately attended to.
They add that government has been seen to only handle concerns of parties who threaten to withdraw labor than those who intend to use other means.
