The race for the newly created Ibanda Municipality Member of Parliament seat has attracted several candidates contesting on the NRM ticket.
The candidates declared themselves last week after the electoral commission outed the road map for the primary elections.
Ibanda is among other new municipalities like Bugiri, Apac, Kotido, Sheema, Buikwe and Nebbi that will be holding these elections between May 17 and July 19.
Our reporter Joshua Nahamya talked to some of the contenders and below are some of the responses:
Agaba is a resident of Kabaale parish in Bisheshe division. A youth, Agaba has been working as sales manager, East/North for Unilever Uganda limited.
It is his first political aspiration in Ibanda. He revealed that he was ready to boost development through lobbying jobs for the youth and other people of Ibanda.
His areas of focus are education, sports and health.
Tuhebwe is the head teacher of Kagongo Parents’ Secondary School in Kagongo Ward, and a daughter to Vincent Mbabazi of Bisheshe division, who owns a number of schools in the district, including the aforementioned.
She has previously contested as Member of Parliament for Ibanda South constituency, but losing to Works statement minister John Byabagambi two times.
As an educationist, she says that after winning, she will boost the education system of Ibanda municipality.
He is the current mayor of Ibanda municipality and has been the town council mayor for two terms.
A born of Bufunda ward in Bufunda division, Murinde is a strong businessman in Ibanda town.
If he assumes office, he says, he will extend water to Kashangura and Bisheshe as well as source funds for road extension in the municipality.
Igundura was born in Ibanda cell, Kyaruhanga ward in Kagongo division and has been the coordinator of Civil Aviation Authority for about 17 years.
This is his first political aspiration and his areas of focus are education and infrastructure development.
Rwaburindore Tarsis Bishanga
Bishanga hails from Nyamirima ward in Bufunda division but he has since re-allocated to Bisheshe division.
He has worked with the government of Uganda and he is the proprietor of Beta ranches.
He is a close friend to the first family and his area of focus is agribusiness.
Robert Kiromba was born and raised by the famous Katatumba family in Kayenje ward in Nyabuhikye, Bufunda division. He is current the chairperson of Ibanda district farmers association. His area of focus is agriculture.
Mugenyi comes from Kyarukoobwa in Bufunda ward in Bufunda division. It is his firt time in active politics and he has mostly been working from Kampala.
Mwiine Innocent Bakamuhara
Mwine was born in Nyamirima ward in Nyabuhikye Bufunda division, and he is currently working with State House.
He has also formerly worked with Centenary Bank at the head office in Kampala. His areas of focus are clean water extension and infrastructure development.
Benard Kakwene, who has been in politics for a while as a town council and district youth Councillor, was born in Kyaruhanga cell, Kyaruhanga ward in Kagongo division.
It is said that he is the one who moved a motion for municipal status. His area of focus is education.
He is among the directors of Alliance group of institutions, which owns secondary schools, institutes and a university.
Once elected, Rwomushana, born in Bufunda cell in Bufunda division and a first-timer in politics, wants to boost education in the district.
Other candidates include Gilbert Mukama, and Benard Kakwene Mazirwe among others.
