The Minister of Internal Affairs, Gen. JJ Odongo is expected to make an official statement on the killing of 11-year-old pupil in Kole district allegedly by two Indians on the floor of Parliament today.
Violence escalated in Kole and the main town of Lira on Saturday during the burial of late Dicken Okello resulting to shooting and injuring of five people currently receiving treatment at Mulago National Referral Hospital.
A radio station was closed and eight of its workers arrested and charged with incitement of violence.
No official statement has however been made by government on the matter which has precariously pitted the indigenous Langi against the Indians in Lira town. Shops owned by Indians remain closed.
During the Parliament plenary sitting on Tuesday last week, Kole Woman Member of Parliament, Judith Alyek demanded for a statement from the Minister of Internal Affairs.
“Madam Speaker, there is a big problem in Lango and particularly in my district of Kole. A pupil of 11 years was killed last Friday and two Indians are currently in detention but no official statement from government has been made,” said Alyek.
The Speaker directed the Executive to respond to the matter but the Ministers were not ready with a statement.
It was decided that a comprehensive statement be made on Tuesday this week.
