Leaders Furious as Museveni Cancels Kisoro Campaign Meeting

Leaders in Kisoro district have expressed anger over President Yoweri Museveni’s decision to cancel his campaign meeting in the district.

President Museveni was scheduled to campaign in Kisoro district today, Thursday December 10th ,2020 according to electoral commission program.

However, the NRM district executive committee later revealed that the president and party chairman had decided not to visit Kisoro but that delegates from the district had been selected to meet him in Kabale.

This information didn’t go well with some party leaders, and according to reports, a few have decided to miss the Kabale meeting.

“We were planning on speaking to the president here; reminding him of the pledges he made to us including the construction of the Kale Institute of Science and Technology, tarmacking tourism roads, upgrading Nyakabande airstrip, working on Busanza electricity dam among others,” one of the party leaders who asked for anonymity told ChimpReports

Abel Bizimana the Kisoro LC5 chairperson also confirmed that he will not attend the meeting in Kabale.

He however promised to continue canvassing votes for President Museveni.

Bizimana said President Museveni should have come and listened to the concerns of the people in the border district which is one of the biggest strongholds of the NRM.

Bizimana revealed that Minister David Bahati informed him last night about President Museveni’s cancellation of campaign program in Kisoro district.

When contacted, the state minister of regional cooperation Dr Philemon Mateke who is also the Kisoro NRM Chairman asked the people of Kisoro to be calm, adding that the president will visit Kisoro the next time.

Kisoro district is to join the districts of Kabale, Rukiga and Rubanda in the meeting that is to be held at Kigezi College Butobere.
