The Local Defence Unit (LDU) personel under direct supervision of their commander Maj. Gen. Samuel Kawagga has Tuesday afternoon foiled a planned robbery in Mutundwe, a Kampala surbub.
According to a police statement, the incident took place at around 03:50 pm at Mutundwe Parish, Kigaaga Zone in Rubaga Political Division.
In the operation, four suspected armed robbers believed to be on a mission to steal cash from a high profile person were put out of action by the joint security team.
Eye witnesses that spoke to ChimpReports said the robbers had targeted the residence of Minister of Sports, Charles Bakabulindi.
However, police said they were yet to ascertain the claims.
Speaking from the scene, Gen. Kawagga said there was an exchange of fire between security operatives and the robbers until the latter were overpowered while others fled in a salon car.
Some exhibits were recovered which include a pistol, two bundles of fake dollars, and a Toyota Wish brand vehicle registration number UBE 808F Toyota.
Police said efforts were underway to trace for other members of the criminal gang currently on the run and are believed to be in possession of two SMG rifles.
