A local council I chairperson in Kitumba Sub county Kabale district has been arrested for vandalizing road signs along the Kabale – Katuna highway
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman identifies the suspect as Richard Byamukama, a black smith and LC1 chairperson of Hamuganda cell in Bukora Parish, Kitumba sub county.
He was arrested on Friday afternoon on a tip off after a number of items were sighted at his working place.
Maate says the suspect is said to have stolen several road side guards, road signs and their standpipes along the Kabale-Katuna Road.
He says an operation was made in that village where there are many black smiths, which led to the arrest.
“After realising that there has been an ongoing uprooting of road signs from the Kabale – Katuna road, we started investigating. We put up intelligence and last night they did steal the signs again but they took off. Police followed them and fortunately we managed to arrest the chairman with a number of road signs and guards”. Maate said.
Allan Sempebwa the UNRA manager media relations and corporate affairs has applauded the Uganda police for catching the culprit
“We have been working with Uganda police and other security agencies to bring these culprits to book. I can see the coloration is now working “. Sempebwa said.
