The Kampala-Hoima highway has been blocked from Kyankwanzi by the angry National Resistance Movement supporters aggrieved by the results of the concluded primary elections for Members of Parliament.
According to pictures and videos from the eyewitnesses who used the road on Saturday evening, several roadblocks had been erected by the population who burned tires on the road and placed heavy logs.
“The road from Hoima to Kampala has been cut off from kyankwanzi by an angry populace who are protesting the scientific win of Micheal katungi. I and Duncan Abigaba had to plead our way through,” said Matthew Bagonza.
Katungi, a former Uganda Media Center employee, has been declared the winner of Butemba County MP defeating the incumbent Pentagon Kamusiime.
Pentagon’s supporters have strongly rejected the results declared by the Kyankwanzi district election officer saying it was rigged.
Supporters of incumbent woman MP Ann Nankabirwa have also rejected the results that declared Christine Bukenya the winner.
